Star Valley is an RV park like we had never seen! As the name states, it is more of a resort than park. Although several nightly and weekly spaces are available, most of the park is held by residents who have purchased their own lots and reside in either they’re recreational vehicle or stationary park “models”. Currently there are over 700 lots with more being built. For weekly & monthly rentals, some private lot owners rent out their site while they are away. Each space has 30/50 amp electric, water & sewer.
We stayed for a month in a nice private lot that also had a concrete patio. Keep in mind, though, that the owners may not have all the amenities desired at their particular lot. Case in hand, ours did not have a picnic table, which doesn’t sound so bad until you’re ready to enjoy your dinner outside! And you will want to be outdoors as much as possible! The temperature this time of year is generally in the low 80s, upper 70s with calm winds, if any.
The Resort offers a 9-hole and 18-hole golf course, pickle ball court, swimming pool, convenience store, and many planned activities in their large community center. (I believe there are additional fees for the golf course unless you are a private lot owner.) There are sites for tents, a few log cabins and a motel also on the property with showers/bathhouses and a laundry facility. Cable television is not available and while WI-FI is mentioned in the brochure, the ladies at the check-in were honest about it not working well at all sites. We couldn’t get it to work at all and only had one to two bars on our AT&T 4G service. So since we were there for a month we ended up calling the Silver Star Communications local provider and set up a hard line directly to our lot. Very friendly employees and worth the price for a month long stay!
We picked Star Valley for its locale and for its rates. It is located only 52 miles to Jackson, WY, 60 miles to the Grand Tetons, and 139 to the south entrance of Yellowstone. We checked availability at other private RV parks which were closer to these localities, but with rates more than double, we figured we could just enjoy the beauty of the drive! Also, as we found in Colorado, you have to make reservations way in advance in order to stay in the Wyoming state or national parks. I should probably start researching now to book a space next summer!
Other than the obvious attractions listed above, this area is brimming with wonders. We thoroughly enjoyed driving down the off-roads through Bridger National Forrest outside of Alpine and stopping at trails and campgrounds along the Snake River. From Alpine (17 miles North of Star Valley Ranch Resort), the river flows east along scenic highway 89 to Jackson. There are always lots of people enjoying a day of rafting starting in Jackson. Heading west, the river runs along highway 26 through the Alpine Northeast Forest, past the Palisades Reservoir and through amber waves of grain to the city of Idaho Falls, ID. Another beautiful drive!
